Way of the Spirit Pilgrimage
Fellow pilgrims,
We are about 40 days from our time together in Twin Falls. I challenge you and others
from your church to take part in this pilgrimage. I commend Bishop Jos for starting this
annual pilgrimage. Faith formation, prayer, and spirituality are at the heart of the
Christian faith, and what it means to be an Episcopal Christian, whatever our age and
stage.
A pilgrimage is a sacred journey taken for a sacred purpose. While there are historic
pilgrimages, such as to the Holy Land, Christians have long made local pilgrimages to
places ancient and modern. A pilgrimage differs from a road trip in that it is taken for a
spiritual purpose. Like a road trip, it can include surprises and adventures along the
way.
We’ve provided a simple one-page handout with ideas on how you, a group of friends,
and/or your local church can participate in the pilgrimage. Of course, I encourage you to
check out my book, “A Pilgrimage of the Heart: Walter Hilton and the English Mystical
Tradition” as part of your preparation.
Pray for me as I will be praying for you in the coming days and weeks.
